    What is Kid A?

    Kid A is a service created by a dad who - after selling dozens of the things that his kids outgrew - realized there must be a more user-friendly way for the used marketplace to be done. So, he made Kid A to help busy parents get a fair amount for their used kid gear without the pain, time, and uncertainty of the alternatives. (Kid A is also the name of the album by which the band Radiohead forged a new direction)

    What makes Kid A eco-friendly?

    Kid A is driven to accelerate the reuse cycle of products made to perform over a long life. We make it easier for parents to sell retired gear today rather than let it sit in storage for months or years. What we buy we sell quickly at a reasonable price, increasing the supply of used premium kid gear on the market. Our planet benefits when high quality + used is chosen over cheap + new. We avoid the carbon emissions and waste from the manufacturing, packaging, shipping, and disposing of every flimsy, short-life product that we take out of demand.

    Kid A also aims to give more families access to the gear they need to enjoy the outdoors. Family hikes and bike rides solidify connection with nature, which elevates environmental consciousness and awareness.

    What exactly do I need to provide on your form to get an offer?

    Easily get all of the info from the item itself.

    1) brand, 2) model, and 3) manufactured year: Printed on, or etched into, the fabric or frame. Possibly on a tag sewn into the item. While date formats vary, year of production is often intuitively clear. If you can’t find any of this info after a complete search of your item, contact Kid A for assistance.

    4) condition: Choose one of three simple tiers to rate your item. Guidance for each rating tier is provided within the offer form. If you rate it like you are buying it, you’ll likely get it right!

    How does item exchange and payment work?

    Kid A will arrive within the scheduled time window and location. We complete a rapid item inspection, in which we:

    • confirm brand, model, and manufactured year
    • test core components for functionality
    • assess surface condition

    Our target inspection time is a minute or less per item. Immediately after a successful inspection, we pay the full offer amount by the payment method that you select on our form.

    What if the info that I enter on the form differs from what Kid A finds on inspection?

    Kid A may adjust an offer if we find that a detail entered on the offer form - brand, model, manufactured year, or condition - is clearly inconsistent with what we see on inspection. Kid A avoids adjusting offers whenever possible – we do so only when a discrepancy is blatantly clear. If that happens, we will explain the discrepancy to you and do our best to provide you with an adjusted offer on the spot. You can then choose to accept or reject the adjusted offer at that time. If you reject the adjusted offer, we’ll simply leave the item with you, without penalty.

    In the event that this happens with an unattended pickup option, we will attempt to contact you with an adjusted offer. If we can’t reach you or you reject the adjusted offer, we’ll simply leave the item for you where we found it.

    Please note that Kid A will withdraw the offer for and not take any item that has a broken or missing core component.

    Can I donate my payment to charity?

    Absolutely! You can choose to donate your offer payment directly to either of two incredible local non-profit organizations – the Washburn Center for Children or the Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy. Simply choose a donation option in the payment details section on our form. Kid A will send confirmation of the donation to your email address within two business days of item receipt.

    What does and doesn’t Kid A accept?

    Kid A accepts over 500 models of gear and will continuously evolve/expand our assortment. We acquire only top brands to ensure high quality and durability for the next owner. We do not accept items that have broken or missing core components. We research extensively for product recalls and do not accept models or manufacture years that we flag for recall risk. We do not give offers on significantly aged items. We cannot accept car seats.

    How does Kid A handle the potential for stolen or lost items?

    We urge you to only select the unattended pickup option if you can leave items in a known safe/secure location that Kid A can access. You, the seller, assume the risk of loss due to theft prior to Kid A arrival for pickup.

    On a separate note, Kid A tracks stolen property databases and reports sellers of any potential stolen item that we come across in all scenarios.
